The Robot Rebellion (1982)

In all the futurism books written for children, this may be the most hilariously disturbing two-page spread I've seen. This image, from the book Fact or Fantasy (World of Tomorrow) depicts robots that have determined humans are no longer necessary and now must be hunted down.

I can just see some little Billy or Susie in the early 80s reading that, "...allied to robots of superhuman strength, these computers might take over the world and see no place in it for ourselves." The aforementioned child then proceeds to poop their pants.

OMG that's the best illo ever! Tom Cruise and 70's mustache-man (riding an invisible skateboard) outrun industrial robots that have escaped their electrical controller bases to take over the world - one car factory at a time! Jeez, you program a robot to unscrew a bolt and the next thing you know...

I'd buy a poster of this if I could.

I'm also very curious what the robots planned to do to the humans they catch. Stare them into submission with their glowing blue eyes?

I'm pretty sure that same book had creepy shit about the evolution of humans thousands/millions of years in the future. Something about massive heads, feeble bodies, and maybe no pinkies? It's a testament to the artist and author that I still remember this crap about 20 years later.

To be fair, little children are always pooping their pants.
