The Simpsons go to EPCOT

Fans of Disney's Epcot, (the theme park formerly known as EPCOT Center), seem to fall into three categories:

1. Angry
2. Bored
3. Nostalgic

There are a number of websites devoted to EPCOT that critique the theme park and Disney management for letting it become the laughstock it now seems to be. (For the Simpsons's take, check out the video at the bottom of the post.) Here is a small sampling of those blogs and sites I have come across which seem to make very relevant points.

EPCOT Central
Waltopia
Re-Imagineering

I think it's a little misleading to label EPCOT criticism as a recent phenomenon. The park has always been a lightning rod for ridicule...not undeservedly. Truth be told, the earlier "edu-tainment" pavilions were fun for Disney geeks, but for the general public they were definitely less so.

Disney didn't get rid of Horizons, World of Motion, and Journey Into Imagination because they were fantastic attractions that were loved the world-over. They got rid of them because people didn't like them, plain and simple. Nostalgia is the only thing keeping them going in people's minds.

EPCOT always seemed like a descendant of Expo67 / Man & His World ... another beautiful project that died of neglect.

I wait with anticipation for posts on Expo67 !
