The 1966 book
Automobiles of the Future by Irwin Stambler contains some pretty awesome projections of what we were supposed to be driving by now. The image above is the cover of the book. Stay tuned as we check out the cars of the (paleo) future as featured in this classic book.
Looking at the cars on my street and the cars on that cover, I think that we really were gipped by Detroit.
ReplyDeleteIn the special features of the DVD for the Gerry Anderson show 'UFO' they talked about Straker's car. It was, apparently, incredibly dangerous to drive. Also, they didn't have motors to drive the 'self-opening' gullwing doors so they used the same technology as Star Trek did for the doors: humans.
ReplyDeleteI agree with lt. blout. We got gypped. Especially when you look what Detroit did to beautiful muscle cars in the 80's...
Thanks for finding this! I've been hunting for that book since I last saw it in grammar school way back in the 1960s.
ReplyDeleteNow I know the actual title and author, maybe I can get a copy after all these years! I finally found Floyd Clymer's Steam Car Scrapbook after 25 years.
Wow, doesn't the middle one remind you of an E-type? Those pre-dated the book, too.
