This video from 1987 imagines the Apple Computer company of the year 1997, (tongue planted firmly in cheek). I can't decide if the iPsychiatrist or the R2D2-style hologram is my favorite Apple innovation through 1997.
Odd. And a clear demonstration of the fact that the "computer" has become an integral part of our society: "Apple" is no more only a "Computer" company but an electronics one, and "computers" are now in the iPod, in the iPhone, in the Apple TV. And only in the end in the Macs.
It’s interesting to me how some of the satirical ads from 20 years ago where pretty accurate to computer / technology time lines in some specific cases. It’s interesting though how Apple perceived it’s success in “desktops” where I think the companies biggest achievements have been in stand alone hardware like the iPod, and iPhone.
Little did these guys know that come the real 1997, Apple would be nearly bankrupt, with all of them (except for Woz) out of work, replaced by the guy they'd just recently decided was a liability to the company.
I love the glasses with the mini floppy disk drive in the side - hilarious! But yeah, they were off by about 10 years and only after having to innovate differently from Microsoft. LM
How about making projections for quantum_computing for 2018!?
2010s will be the Quantum_Flux Incorporated decade! People will be able to scan and teleport their ham sandwiches from the local grocery store directly to their plate. Ha!
"Lol, its too bad apple doesn't even control a fraction of the home computer market whihc is, has been, and will always be dominated by the superior pc"
So says the anonymous poster with the inferiority complex.

ReplyDeleteNaw, my favorite part was the "Apple ][ VSOP" -- which is odd, because the ][ series was officially killed in 1993...

Quantum Flux - I think you are getting a bit ahead of your self... Teleportation is at least 10 - 20 years away... 2010 is but 2...
