I liked your summation. It kind of reflects my thoughts about the future since I'm overall a pessimist, but I try, I really try, to be optimistic. Experience has shown that my pessimism isn't misplaced, but I'd like to think that things are getting better.

Nice interview, Matt.

I've been thinking a lot about pessimism towards the future, even more now that I have a 2 year old boy. I've always considered myself intensely pessimistic and cynical about the future, but nothing is more fun for me than to design and illustrate spaceships and fantasy architecture and whatnot. It's an odd state to be in, since there's little or no pleasure in being right about the declining fortunes of our world. But I am fascinated how every indicator can point towards "bad", yet we still wish it (if not actually make it) good. Strange beings, these humans.
