The firefighter of the future is shown making his bow at a demonstration in the Philadelphia Navy Yard. Garbed in an asbestos suit, this smoke eater walks undaunted into the flames, armed with a chemical pump which quickly subdues flames. The equipment is to be used on airplane carriers.

Oh, the wonders of asbestos! This reminded me of the 1979 movie "Unidentified Flying Oddball". One of the characters travels back in time and is burned at the stake -- but his asbestos suit saves him.
ReplyDeleteDoesn't seem the best method for putting out a fire is to walk into the middle of it (especially a fuel fire) with a pressurized canister dangling in the flames. I could be wrong...
ReplyDeleteI need to get me an asbestos suit for the impending doom.
