Space Station X-1 (circa 1955)
The image above is from an insert in the Walt Disney Treasures - Tomorrowland: Disney in Space and Beyond DVD set. The image was used in Disneyland as the poster for the Space Station X-1 attraction.
Space Station X-1 invited Disneyland guests to circle the earth from fifty miles up for a satellite view of America.

What guests actually viewed from Space Station X-1 was a very large painted panorama designed by Disney motion picture matte artist Peter Ellenshaw. The circular painting was viewed via a large rotating doughnut-shaped platform that carried guests from one coast of America to the other, culminating in a beautiful sunset over California. Many natural features in the earth's surface - such as the Grand Canyon and Rocky Mountains - were visible.
I would like to have seen this!
